The ECO4 grant is part of the UK's Energy Company Obligation scheme aimed at improving energy efficiency in homes. It particularly benefits landlords with properties that are energy-inefficient and tenants who qualify based on low income or specific benefits. The grant covers upgrades like insulation (loft, cavity wall, and underfloor), heating system improvements (e.g., heat pumps and electric storage heaters), and other measures to meet minimum Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) requirements.
For landlords, ECO4 is especially advantageous as it can help bring properties up to the legally required minimum EPC rating of 'E' (mandatory for rental properties in most cases). However, from 2030, the government plans to increase the minimum requirement to a rating of 'C', making it even more important to improve property energy efficiency now. This not only aids in compliance with legal obligations but also enhances the property's value and appeal. Eligibility depends on the tenant's circumstances or location in an area with high levels of fuel poverty.
