The free replacement of old inefficient boilers with high-efficiency boilers and smart controls is part of the UK’s Energy Company Obligation scheme, which aims to improve energy efficiency in homes. It particularly benefits homeowners with energy-inefficient properties who qualify based on income or specific benefits. This also cover additional upgrades such as solar panels, insulation (loft, cavity wall, and underfloor), and heating system improvements along with other measures required to meet minimum Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) standards. Importantly, there are no costs at any stage of the process.

Replacing an old non-condensing boiler with a modern A-rated condensing boiler and smart controls typically saves households £350–£900 per year on heating bills. The upgrade also improves the property’s Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) by 3–10 points, helping many homes move closer to, or into, the more desirable EPC Band C rating.
