The Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS) is a government-backed energy efficiency initiative launched in 2023 to help households across England, Scotland, and Wales reduce energy waste and lower their heating bills. Operated in partnership with major energy suppliers like E.ON, the scheme targets homes with poor insulation by funding a range of cost-effective insulation upgrades.
Unlike its predecessor, the ECO scheme, GBIS is designed to reach a wider range of households—including those not necessarily on low incomes. It supports both general eligibility groups (based on Council Tax bands and EPC ratings) and low-income households (those receiving qualifying benefits).
