For Landlords

If you have properties based in Bedford, Luton or Milton Keynes, you can take advantage of the new Warm Homes Local Fund. This gives free solar panels with a battery, heating systems and insulation for the property. If the property is in a qualifying post code, the only criteria is that the property must have an EPC rating of D, E, F or G. Unlike the previous grant, there are no financial requirements such as benefits needed by the occupier.

The Warm Homes: Local Grant is a UK government-funded scheme announced in January 2026, designed to improve energy efficiency and reduce fuel poverty in low-income households. It is now available in Bedford, Luton and Milton Keynes as part of a wider consortium. The grant covers upgrades like solar panels with batteries, insulation (loft, cavity wall, internal wall) and low-carbon heating systems such as heat pumps and electric storage heaters - all aimed at boosting your home's Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating to at least a 'C'. To qualify, your home must have an EPC rating of D to G and be in a qualifying post code.

For landlords, the Warm Homes: Local Grant is particularly beneficial. The scheme will fully fund upgrades for one eligible property per landlord. Tenants are not expected to pay anything towards the works. With the government planning to raise the minimum EPC requirement for rental properties to a 'C' rating, taking advantage of this funding now can help landlords meet future legal obligations while also enhancing property value and reducing tenants' energy bills.
